Boo Boo Bag Tutorial Video

I made a tutorial video on how to make
my raw rice filled bags, after several people e-mailed me
with several questions.
Hope you enjoy.

This was my first craft video I've ever made.

I was happy to not have to shoot it over and over, got
most instructions in one take, sadly, it's in pieces...

Please leave comments.
Thank you for watching.
Happy Crafting!
Cheers~

Inspired Monday

Even before I had my coffee I started sewing this morning.
I decided to make this blanket for my grandson.
First I machine stitched the pieces together, then I
set the circular frame for some hand quilting.
I made a few more boo boo bags
 and whipped up another receiving
 blanket using
coordinating fabric.
The backing for this projects was from the
flannel sheets I purchased and cut up for
spit up cloths.
I had so much left over I could make another have dozen receiving blankets
Looking out my loft window
I'm reminded that Issac is somewhere far down south.
I don't think we'll feel the tropical storm up this
way, too much.
My thoughts and prayers are with all who lay in the path
of Issac, may you all seek safe refuge till it passes.
Cheers~

Boo Boo Bags for Hot or Cold Use

Remember this project from last month? Well I kept two of the larger ones
to use them for my Boo Boo bags.
Using the ingredients from the other day's project.
I set a few bags of rice aside to fuse with the applied scents.
Only after a few days they were ready to use.
I grabbed another small piece of scrap t-shirt material, pinned it to
the already embroidered piece and cut a narrow rectangle.
I folded the fabric together, careful to line up the three edges closely.
I pinned the layers together (I like doubling my Boo Boo bags, so they last longer).
Then using a simple straight stitch on my sewing machine, I seamed the three sides, leaving a small opening at the end. Then I turned the piece.
Whether I'm using t-shirt material or a cotton, I always
like to iron it before I cut it and after I've sewn and turned it.
Using a regular piece of white copy paper, I made a funnel.
I like using a scoop to pour the rice into the bags.
Now you can use a kitchen funnel if you wish, I just like using my paper ones
for most of my scented craft projects.
Then I filled up my bag with the scented rice.
I used about three quarters of the prepared mixture.
This was about a cup and a half of rice, maybe a dash bit more.
Once my bag was filled to the desired amount, I hand stitched the opening, using quilting thread. I like using this stronger thread because it seems to last longer and wear stronger.
It can be found at most fabric stores.

Overall, I'm very pleased with how my Boo Boo bags have turned out.
I keep some in the freezer in a freezer zip lock bag, this way
the scents from freezer don't combine with the scents of my bags. Keeping all scents in their own places ;)

To warm up these bags, simply place in a clean microwave, full power for about one minute, to one minute thirty seconds. NEVER go over two minutes. This will not make the rice hotter, or keep in warm longer! It simply will break down the materials faster.
After Boo Boo bag cools down, you can re-heat it, again, using one minute minimally, or two minutes maximum times on microwave, full strength setting.

Happy Crafting
Cheers~

Charity Shop Treasures

I found this shelf for two dollars at a local charity shop!
It was a perfect size for the odd space above my kitchen sink.
My cutting/craft table was pieced together by Ikea shelves.
My sewing table is my old kitchen table, it's over twenty years old and still in great condition!
I was so happy to find this cabinet. I saw it first when charity shop had it for
forty-five dollars. I went back a week later and was so surprised to find it still there AND reduced to just fifteen dollars! YaY!
This cabinet was also fifteen dollars! It's great in our narrow galley kitchen too.
Especially since there is very little cupboard space.
I love all our local charity shops, such great economical finds!

Cold and Hot Pads

I decided to make cold & hot pads today.
To make sure they are fragrant
I've added the essential oils & lavender with raw rice.
I've double bagged each, labeled & dated for storage.
Best to let sit for a few days so the scents fuse nicely with
the raw rice.

I'll continue with this project in a few days, until then...my new book arrived today.
I have so many hand sewing projects to create!

There are so many wonderful libraries
here in and around where I live.
I decided to have another library day today.
Now I have allot of inspiration for creating.
A funny thing happened on the way home from the library...
I found the county faire grounds.
I'm looking forward to coming back once faire  opens tomorrow.

Library Day

I love library day!
Not only is the drive there gorgeous but
the neighbourhood my library is in is lovely too.
This is the entrance to my library.

I drive through here wishing I lived just across the street, every time.
This is today's fun finds.
I picked up a few childrens books for art projects.
These vintage books are awesome!
This books look dated but great!
All these books were $3 at the Friends of the Library section.
The back exit is just as beautiful as the front entrance.
Weather is perfect tonight too.
I feel like a nice slow drive home...
I had to return one book to the down town city library too,
so I drove by the capital.
I have yet to visit this place, I must put it on my list of things
to do for next month.
The local county fair will be starting at the
end of this month too.
Fun, fun, fun!

Grand Baby Due Any Day...

I'm making pins for the hospital. Using up scrappy scrapbook paper.

I only had a few of the plastic button covers, so I'm using regular safety pins in addition.

I cut out these cute blue whales and backed them with "it's a boy" paper.

I also downloaded YAHTZEE score cards, and printed them in
three different sizes. For those long moments, during the waiting process
until little squirt arrives.
Just getting things in staging area, so I can pack up my car...
and head up north to my daughter's place for this weekend...
Camera bag all packed...
