Gabby & Gator

James Burks and Me @ Comic Con 2010

I was fortunate enough to meet James Burks this year at Comic Con.

He has created a very clever graphic novel.
At first view of his black and white illustrations, in two other smaller publications, I knew the new book (Gabby & Gator) would be fantastic!

James is a very talented artist, animator and all around great guy! http://www.jamesburks.com/

His new book, due out in September 2010 (just weeks away) will capture your hearts!
Hardcover with 192 pages. This book is full of great illustrations and a story line that will stay with you even after you've closed the book!

Gabby & Gator is perfect for all ages!!

I was lucky to receive an early released copy and have since read it several times to my students and even once to my boyfriend (yes, it's really that good).
They all love Gabby & Gator so much that I'm frequently asked to read it, nearly everyday!

I do hope you go and visit James' website soon http://www.jamesburks.com/
and pre-order your copy of this really fun book.
 Cheers~
James signing one of his books for me :)
and happy reading!

Comic Con, My Kids and Me...

Comic Con 2010 was a family affair! Usually I am the only one attending comic con. Joyfully, this year I was not alone.
My son volunteered for four days! And I was so happy to have him join me!
To my uttermost surprise, my daughter also came for a one day visit!!
She and her friend came for a full day and nearly left midway through because of the enormous crowds! I would not let her go and insisted she let me take her for a walkabout on the expo floor!
Within minutes she was spotting celebs and posing with them!
Eventually both my kids met up and as they have always done, began acting silly!
No great surprise, I am their Mum after all ;)
My son was overtaken by a group of Superhero Woman...kissed by a lovely lady in a Steampunk costume (whom he then decided to hang out with at the Costume Ball).
My daughter made it through the great Hall with her mate for a third time only to finally give up, due to sore feet and a grumbling belly.
Happily I have a few pictures of these events.
My heart leaps with joy everytime I see them too!
Comic Con 2010 was so much fun for me and happily my kids too!

Comic Con 2010

What a great surprise to meet Noah!
Another surprising moment at the Psych panel.
Just isn't Con without Harry
Love this, his point of reference via cell phone!
I was so happy to make it to at least one panel this year, actually I made it to more than just...

I'm hopefully back for good!

Me and a friend working at Comic-Con 2009

My son and I attending the masquerade ball at San Diego Comic-Con 2009

Me and my boyfriend in San Diego, attending/working San Diego Comic-Con 2009

There have been many changes in my life these past few months.
A few difficult things to over come, other events that bring absolute joy to my life and heart.
And the tough choices to make, that take every ounce of energy one can muster up.
Physically I've had a few bouts with ailment. One that has kicked my bum!
The most creatively perplexing event, the melt down of my laptop.

Happy to report, I'm up and running again, my new cherry red "lollipop" cutie sits ever so lovely in my lap, and I'm feeling very creative again.

Thank you for the kind check ins, from a few of you.
I'm not completely out to the woods, so to speak, however;
feeling more energetic and creatively charged to stick around.

I haven't created any fiber arts these past few months.
Mostly paper crafts, when able and spending time with loved ones.

I'll be moving in the next several weeks, so I shall post a bit about that.
Haven't moved from my current residence in nine years...it's going to be a
bit of a challenge.
My kids have grown into fine adults (one still in school, but very near completion).
So there is the "short" of it.

Hope all of you are well. I have a much stronger respect of "health" matters now.
Being "under the weather" for a prolonged bit of time, can really take away the cheery happy status we sometimes take for granted.

I'm gratefully back!

Cheers everyone!

Comic-Con(Day two)

I drove in. Much headache getting through the throng of traffic and sea of people.
Managed to find spot in southern parking structure. Yeah!
Then walked north the entire length of convention centre to door A.
I was lucky, by that, my job assignment allowed me to sit.
Volunteers booth. "HI. Did you bring your paperwork and a photo ID? May I see it please"..?
Erin, my co-worker, rocked. She kept me laughing when I wasn't keeping her laughing.
As for the time spent "working". It felt more like, a friendly get together, with my "own people" all of us... geeks.
After a short three hour shift, I was off and headed for the convention floor.
My work shift started at 7:45am. So me heading into convention @ 10:45am was early enough.
Artist alley once more, was my goal. Met two more artists.
Debbie Huey from Bumperboy comic.
And The Toy People.
I was happy to have completed my first task. Finding new artists to keep in contact through the year...with my students.
I had met Dave Pryor and Bob Rissetto from Inner Workings &
Emo Gonzales and his brother Chemix of Emonic.net at Preview night.
All four of the artist were/are willing to keep in contact and share some of their art and insights with my art students, through-out the upcoming year.
Now time for me!
Panels to attend: Dr. Who, Torchwood, Bloggers @ Con, Geekroundtable live Podcast.
Films to view: Citizen.
people to watch...booths to wander and in the end: George Lucas, Star Wars awards to animated, small film. After that a preview showing of the B rated...Lost Boys 2. Cory was there, Kevin Spacey and a room full of very tired fans...but we stayed till the end, which was near to 1am.
Now, I had to head home sleep for two hours and turn around to do it all over again....more on day three.

Comic-con 2008 (Preview Night)

Well, the queuing for an hour and forty-five minutes, to get my pass as a volunteer
was all worth it.
So much to see, so much to do!
I met some really talented and creative artists.
The crowd wasn't too bad, in the first hour.
By the end of the evening, Elite securities had to walk the aisle asking
people to leave.
It's now history, Preview night, and I look forward to day two!
