Making fresh tomato/basil sauce for dinner tonight. Nothing like the smell of fresh garlic, bell pepper, basil, thyme and tomatoes in the kitchen. Yum. I may make a small lasagna too! To make this sauce: 1 lb of ground beef 1 package of Italian sweet sausage three medium size tomato 1 green bell pepper 4 cloves of garlic fresh basil sugar fresh thyme 3 tbsp water 6oz tomato paste salt/pepper/oregano to taste Brown beef/sausage over med/high, add garlic, chopped peppers stir till brown add diced fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, sugar, fresh thyme, paste, water and seasoning. Simmer over medium heat till bubbles, reduce heat and let simmer for a 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. Will serve four to six people over spag OR feeds two over spag and med size lasagna. Really good next day too! |
